When building your Lamaze class one of the most important things you can do is find fun ways to make your classes interactive. A problem many instructors face is finding supplies and teaching props to engage your participants without breaking the bank.
In my seminars I like to share with new educators less expensive options that can be used as much as possible. Unfortunately, there are times when teaching props can be a little more expensive. The purpose of this list is to show you which tools I have chosen to incorporate in my classes. Not all of these will be a good fit for you and some things you may be able to find at home!
Babies: When I talk about skin to skin and breastfeeding I like to have my families have a soft bodied doll to practice with. I have been very happy with Beringer’s La Baby, 20 inch. This baby is close to the size of a newborn and comes in 4 different ethnicities.
Posters: There are tons of great posters on the market! I use Plumtree Baby’s small posters in the display case. This was a splurge for me, costing $240. Another great option would be to use royalty free images from the internet in a PowerPoint or have an artistic friend draw the images for you for free!
Scarves (used as a Rebozo): I use my own personal scarves instead of a Rebozo and just machine wash between classes. My favorite for supporting pregnant bellies are from Stella and Dot. They are very long and wide so they provide sufficient support for all size expectant moms. To demonstrate the supported dangle (over the door) I use a thick weave pashmina type scarf that I bought from the street of NYC for $5.
